In September 2016 the newest and tallest building in Thailand was opened with a spectacular lightshow. We got together with the Bangkok Vantage Points photo group agreed to get some nice shots from this opening show. Let me first quote some info about the building, just to set the scene.
MahaNakhon (Thai: มหานคร) is a luxury mixed-use skyscraper located in the Silom/Sathon central business district of Bangkok, Thailand and was opened in late August 2016. Designed to fit into the Thai landscape with a unique pixelated facade, it features the unconventional appearance of a glass curtain walled square tower with a cuboid-surfaced spiral cut into the side of the building. Following transfer of the first residential units in April 2016, it has been recognized as the tallest building in Thailand on 4 May by CTBUH at 314.2 metres (1,031 ft), with 77 floors. Featuring hotel, retail and residences, 200 units of The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Bangkok inside the building are priced between around US$1,100,000 to US$17,000,000, making it one of the most expensive condominiums in Bangkok. I believe this makes it clear, it’s not just a building, it’s one of the key buildings in Bangkok or even in Thailand.
Alex (OnTrails, see his site !) managed to find us two nice spots, the day before the official light show we visited Cloud47 rooftop bar, which has a pretty nice view of MahaNakhon, the main performance day we did visit the rooftop from another hotel – but since it rained heavily most of that night the show wasn’t as spectacular (or enjoyable)
Attached a couple pictures of the lightshow. It surely fuelled the appetite of the Bangkok Vantage Points photography group to find more exiting spots.
